How Can I Reduce the Risk or Worsening of Overweight and Obesity?

•    Follow a healthy eating plan.
•    Focus on portion size.
•    Be active.
•    Keep track of weight and waist measurements.
•    Limit screen, e.g., TV, computer,  time to 2 hours or less a day, unless homework or work related

Reaching and staying at a healthy weight is a long-term challenge for people who are overweight or obese.  But it can be a chance for you to lower your risk of other serious health problems.  With the right treatment and motivation, it is possible to lose weight and lower your long-term disease risk.
•    Make lifestyle and behavioral changes
o    Understand the things that lead to your overeating and/or lack of physical activity
o    Set realistic goals and cut back on calories
o    Follow a healthy eating plan and do not eat oversized portions
o    Become physically active
o    Seek support from family, friends, health care provider
o    Reward success with something you will enjoy, not food
•    You may also check with your doctor about weight loss medications and surgery options if the lifestyle and behavioral changes are not effective in helping you reach your target weight loss goal
