One of the determining factors to how much weight you will lose after your pregnancy is just how much additional weight you gained while you were pregnant but there are things to consider as well. Of course anything up to 14 pounds will be lost within the first 14 days after birth which will include the weight of the baby and the afterbirth.
An additional seven pounds or so of body fat is gained during pregnancy but after birth when the uterus reverts back to its normal size and the hormone level starts to drop then the weight will start to fall as well. The extra fat gained is used as energy while the mother is breastfeeding but there is no magic formula to calculate how quickly each individual’s excess weight will reduce.
Whatever you may feel, it did take almost nine months to gain the extra weight so do not expect miracles when it comes to losing it quickly even though the press is always showing shots of celebrity mothers who have lost it within a few short months. Some women will hang on to the last few pounds they have to lose until they stop breastfeeding because your body may want to cling to a few extra pounds to ensure you have enough energy to provide adequate milk for the baby but every woman’s experience is unique with respect to this.
However, nutrition specialists are able to provide healthy diet plans and with regular physical activity there is no reason why you shouldn’t get back to your normal size and weight. It is true to say that the majority of women will in fact get back to this stage within the year providing they behave as far as their food intake and exercise activities are concerned. Although some women seem to defy this average and have their normal shape back within as little as three months.
Weight loss after pregnancy can of course be difficult as most women’s bodies change in order to be a mother. This is one good reason if you want to achieve weight loss after pregnancy then you must take things steady and not try to rush, especially if you wish to stay healthy.
Sometimes weight loss after pregnancy is not recommended as additional energy is required by the mother to breast feed and take care of the baby and this can last anything up to twelve months. While it may take over half a year for a mother to get close to her old metabolic rate and hormone level there may be some changes that are permanent.
Let us not forget that a pregnant mother can gain anything form twenty five to thirty five pounds but can lose up to fourteen when the baby is born.
Now while this weight loss after pregnancy happens immediately it can still leave up to another twenty one pounds which needs to be lost in the next half to three quarters of a year, but it must be done safely.
