Reverse Cell Phone Lookup - Is it Really Possible?

by Andy OConnor

It happens to most of us at some time or another. You miss a call on your phone from a cell phone number you don’t recognize.

You don’t want to just call the number, in case it’s someone you don’t want to talk to but you’d really like to know whose calling. This is where a reverse cell phone lookup comes in handy.

A reverse cell phone lookup is quite simple to do. All you have to do is enter the cell number you’re looking for into the search box on the site and the reverse cell phone directory will do the rest. It will search through it’s database of cell phone numbers and when it finds a match, it will provide you with the corresponding information for that phone number - name, address & more.

The hardest part of doing a reverse cell phone lookup, is working out which service to use. From personal experience though, I wouldn’t go with one of the companies that claims to offer a free reverse cell phone lookup.

Unfortunately though, this is not the case - there are no accurate, free cell phone lookup services available for cell numbers, only for landline numbers. Sites that advertise as offering a free service usually only let you search for free (then pay to see the information), or are sites that don’t actually have a database of cell numbers that just get their information by “decoding” cell numbers to tell you the carrier and location.

The information for landline phone numbers (owner’s name & address) is freely accessible to the general public, so it’s quite easy for someone to develop a free reverse phone directory. Information for cell phone numbers is a little more closely guarded by the phone companies and is not so easy to obtain.

It costs these reverse cell phone lookup companies a considerable amount of money and time to organize all the information into a searchable database. This is why the reverse cell phone directories that provide accurate results will charge a small fee to cover their costs of providing the service.

Even amongst the paid reverse cell phone lookup services though, there is a wide variation in the quality of what they have to offer. Some companies have far superior and larger databases of cell numbers than others, while a few (not very reputable ones) will still try and make you pay for a search, even if they don’t have the cell number you want!

Fortunately they aren’t all like this though. There are some very good, reliable reverse cell phone lookup services available for you to use if you just know which ones to go to.
