What does a Computer Game System Require?

by Rex Simpleton

Each and every process in the world needs some initiation requirement. Irrespective of the requirement, it is important to simply achieve the potential and make the system progress. In the world of science, any system may need any kind of process or initiation to get started for work. Just like the plant needs Carbon Dioxide and Sunlight for photosynthesis.

This idea is also true in computer gaming. In video games, the peripherals or the devices that you are going to use must meet the requirements set by the game. These requirements are primarily on the capacity of your device; say a console, to perform tasks and to read the game set for by the programmer.

It is also important for the computer system to be compatible in its features. The thing behind this is the matter that the game could be played on a compatible device that could play the software in the game. For example, the video size of the software program may differ from monitor to monitor of a computer. With laid requirements, the gamer may come to know about the right monitor that could display good quality video.

Why these certain minimum requirements are laid for a console to play the game? The programs of the game are designed to sustain in the highest of technology features. In the cases of incompatibility with these consoles, there is a great possibility about the game being affected in one way or the other. These minimum requirements set neither benefit the game developer not the console producer. These requirements are for the user so as to obtain the maximum and the best possible output from the game and the computer system.

Requirements are actually computer specifications that each device must possess. Basically, each game may require certain specifications to the device they must be played with. The game may require the following from the computer:

Speed of Processor - the speed of the processor is a very important factor that any game may require from a computer system. The speed of the processor tells as to how much time the computer system would take in order to complete a task. Video games being an executable program require the maximum speed of a system. Generally, the speed of processor is measured in terms of megahertz (MHz) and gigahertz (GHz), where megahertz is smaller than gigahertz. Exactly, one gigahertz is equivalent to a thousand megahertz. The processors having high speed can run the game at their own speed or lower but the processors having slow speed can never run those games that have high speed processor requirements.

Random Access Memory (RAM) - this memory is the uncomplicated and small memory that is present inside the computer system. This memory helps store the data which is active and needed by the processor. Almost all of the computers available for sale have an active RAM of 64MB. Most of the games are compatible with this memory. But some of the games could require memory as much as 128MB. This is not a big concern as RAM is easy upgradable to some higher capacity memory space.

VRAM - VRAM is the short for Video Read Access Memory. It performs the function of providing maximum possible resolution for the computer system. It works in association with the video card. Video cards help providing the system with visual commands. VRAM is the memory that is on temporary basis and the graphical information is stored in it which is later on provided to the video and the processor system.

Disk Storage Capacity - it means the space that is available for storage of important files and related information. It is measured in Megabytes as units or simply MB and the capacity for the storage and playing of games increases as the disc space increases. It is also very easy to get space of the hard drive upgraded. Higher memory terms could be measured in terms of Gigabytes (GB).

CD ROM Speed - it is not necessary that all the games which are already installed in the computer system require a disc further. Most of the gaming companies use discs to upgrade programs which are later on added to the game by reinstallation of the game. The speed of the installation depends on the speed of the CD ROM. The CD ROM is not just used in playing games, but also in the copyright protection system. The speed of the CD ROM is also a determinant factor to analyze the game program that has higher or lower speed requirement.
